To get you started, I'll share a sweet memory with you. I remember being at a shopping mall once with my mother - I must have been maybe 4 or 5. I was carrying a balloon on a string. As we got ready to cross the parking lot, I let go of the balloon and it started to float into the air. I got ready to run after it, and my mother grabbed me. "Let it go," she said. "We can get another balloon but we can't get another Samantha." I thought that was very sweet and for some reason, it has stuck with me all this time!

Okay - your turn, and good luck with the contest! It will end April 21 @ 8PM EST.

  1. Aw, that's a sweet story. It made me smile. :)

    This necklace is gorgeous!

Okay, my mom isn't your "Leave It to Beaver" type, you know. She's witty and smart and always speaks her mind. One of the funniest (and most true) things she ever said to me when I was in my late teens was: "Honey, anything with tires or testicles is gonna cause you problems." LOL!

    Boy, was she right... lol

  2. Wow, you are really letting us in on something glorious with this shop! THANK YOU!

I don't know if I'm eligible to enter another contest so soon-- but I had to share the glory of Ice Cream Sandwhich days. Once or twice a month, every summer of my childhood, my mom would come home and say "Today needs to be Ice Cream Sandwhich Day. Pack!" And I'd pack water to carry, and maybe a lunch, and we'd have a grand expedition to the nearest Quickie Mart, with a stop on the park along the way. We were always pretty poor, and Mom was going to college, working, and taking care of me totally on her own- but she always found time for a bit of adventure. And I never got bored with it, even when I was a teenager and far too cool/stupid for most fun things. My mom was just that great.

  3. My parents went through a divorce when I was just a baby (I was number 4) and my mom told me that when she felt like all the world was crumbling around her, she could hold on to me and know that everything was going to be alright.

She related this to me when I was a young adult, about to get married and thanked me for being a constant blessing in her life. I was always a very easy-going and responsible child (in stark contrast to a few of my siblings) so I know she really meant it.

  4. My family is very religious: no drinking, smoking, cursing, etc.

I remember when I was in middle school, and my mother saw a letter that my friend had written to me. The friend wrote "PO'd", and my mother admitted she saw it. I asked if she knew what PO'd meant, and she looked around and whispered it in my ear. We giggled a little because I'd never heard her curse at all!

Nowadays, of course, I don't think twice about saying a few words here and there... it was a little inside moment we had when I was growing up.

  5. When I was very young my mother used to tell me because I was so special on my birthday everybody had the day off. I was born on the 4th of July. My bubble might have been burst when I discovered the truth.

    Thanks for the wonderful giveaway.

  6. Me and my mom had this routine of her tucking me in at night, we did this until I graduated from H.S. and left for college. Some of our best talks and best laughs were at those times!

  7. I was in my 20's taking care of my two boys...on my own. My mom was over one day and commented on how clean my home was. I was always cleaning. One day, she said to me, "If your house is too clean your not living...now go have some fun. You gotta just let things go." That day, I went out and played baseball with my boys and the neighborhood children. That was a good day and a beginning to the rest.

  8. One of my fondest mother daughter memories is when I was a high school senior and couldn't attend my graduation rehearsal because I had already enrolled in college. The teacher-in-charge made it perfectly clear that whoever was absent on the day of the rehearsal couldn't march in the graduation. My mom went to school the day of the rehearsal and took my place in the rehearsal. She met all my friends and was given a place in the line. She was applauded by both faculty and student body. Her picture walking across the stage to receive the "dummy" diploma was taken and an article published about her in the school newspaper. She and I laughed about it for years to come.

  9. My mom and I never really got along well. There was never any demonstrations of love or affection as I grew up from either of my parents. When I was thirty, my mom came over to tell me that she had found a lump in her breast. It was quite large, she was scared and we held each other and cried. Thirty years of resentment on my part and aloofness on hers was over.
When her surgery to remove the lump was over, we found out that it wasn't breast cancer, but a clump of cancer cells from one of the worst leukemias known. Surgery was scheduled in one week to put a stent in her brain for chemo. During this week, there was so much love and caring between us.
When Mom woke up after the surgery to put the stent in, she didn't know who any of us were. Her brain had shrunk from the leukemia and the stent damaged most of her frontal lobes. She didn't know what year it was or where she was. She was childlike, and incontinent. And much more than I'll go into.
There is no happy ending here, but I still feel so blessed, because I have that treasured week of feeling cherished and loved by my Mother to remember. We both had realised how important we really were to each other.

  10. One of my favorite memories of my mom is on one particular shopping trip for back to school clothes. We lived in a small town far away from any shopping, so when we went to the big city to shop, it was hard core shopping. My sister and I were both in high school and between the two of us, we probably tried on more than 50 pairs of jeans and my mom just kept encouraging us to dry a different size/style/wash or the same style/wash in the same size because "it can make a difference depending on where they are in the stack when they get cut."

It's stupid, but she worked tirelessly to get us the perfect jeans for school.

  11. Ok when I was 9 yrs old, my Father was in the hospital. We were on our way back home from visiting him.

Our car goes and breaks down. Of course we had no family in the area, so a police officer gave us a ride home.

Before the car broke down, my Mom had stopped and got us 4 kids, happy meals. Those were a rare treat. We never got fast food!!!

When we got home, my mom called my dad. She was very upset. That was our only car, and she had no clue how she was going to go see him now.

I had my hamburger in my lap, and I was too busy paying attention to my Moms phone conversation, to notice that our poodle came over and grabbed the burger and ate it!!!

Oh boy was I mad. Of course that was my only one, and we now had no way to go get another one!!

My Mom had a good laugh over it!!!

  12. My mom is my best friend. She has always been there for me. If I ever need someone to talk to, she's always there offering her advice. When I was growing up, I never listened to her. I always thought she was wrong, but I now realize she was right and only wanted the best for me.

The one thing I am so glad to have shared with my mother was the birth of my son. She's the one that drove me to the hospital when I started having my contractions (my husband was working). She was there the whole time even after my husband showed up from work. When it was time to deliver, she was standing right next to me, holding me up (my husband was on the other side). I never asked her if she wanted to be there nor did she ask if she could be. I TOLD her to be there because I wasn't going to have it any other way. I even told my husband that I really didn't care if he was there or not, but my mom had to be there. Maybe it was the fact that she knew what I was going through, but I'm so glad she was there with me that day.

  13. My best memory was the night my mother called me and told me that there was a baby available and she was going to be adoptable and to come see her as she looked like I did and she knew in her heart that this infant would be my daughter the moment she held her.

And she was! She's now 3 yrs old and we look back at that night and smile all the time at how 'grandmas' heart knew when she saw her that she had found her granddaughter!

  14. My mom liked to play practical jokes on us. It was prom night and my mother had recently made hard boiled eggs. My sister was all dressed up, completely "coiffed" and my mother took an egg out of the fridge and broke it over my sister's head. Unfortunately, it wasn't one of the hard boiled ones. My mom and sister both panicked, There was mass hysteria! To this day we still laugh about that time....30 years later!

  17. I would love to share a story with you all about my dear departed Mom. She passed away a few years ago and I miss her horribly!

I am the baby of 5 children and was a late life surprise and there are 12 years between me and the next oldest sister.

Well my Mom was known for bladder control issues for as long as I could remember! I think I was about 5 or so when Mom, myself, and sister were in the drug store. Suddenly there was a puddle of pee on the floor and to thwart embarrassment my mother started swatting me on the behind saying, "Look what you did!" I was upset because I knew I didn't do it!
My sister then looked at my mother in my defense and loudly announced if it were I that had the accident, then why was pee dripping down my mothers leg!!! My mother was mortified and dragged us out to the car reprimanding us all the way!
Dear Mom I miss these little things!

(Years ago) I just turned 20 years old. I went to the OBGYN for the first time. Unfortunately, it was a day that changed me for the rest of my life. I was diagnosed with a late stage of ovarian cancer. I was alone and doctor asked me to call someone special to come get me because he didn't think I could drive. I called my mom. For next four months I was in the hospital. I was never left alone at night. One by one my family members would stay with me.... (still brings tears to my eyes) The one thing that brought me comfort during that terrible time was the scent of my mother. It was Oil of Olay lotion, but to me it was the smell of love, safety and strength to live.

Thanks for going down memory lane with me. 17 years later I'm still cancer free.

  22. My mom is so funny without meaning to be. Once we were in an elevator and she looked at the indicator that showed what floor we were on and gasped and said how late it was getting. She thought the indicator was a clock! I could see the others in the elevator trying not to laugh, but I got the giggles and couldn't stop-she kept saying "what's so funny" which made me laugh harder.Poor my mom!

  23. Kite Day in Elementary school brings back a lot of memories for me. The story of Kite Day has even become somewhat of a family joke that we bring up during gatherings. On Kite Day, the rules were to make a kite and bring it in. The making it yourself part seemed to have lost for most of my classmates though because they came in with Kites bearing Power Rangers, My Little Pony, and Care Bears. Not me. My Mom stayed up late the night before and we made my Kite of foil and wood posts trying to make sure it would fly. To top it off, on the day of the event, I forgot my Kite. My Mom realized this and rushed to the school to bring it to me our strange foil creation. In the hurry of trying to get my kite to me, she forgot to put her car in park and as she was running towards the school, her car was rolling down the hill. Thinking back on this story now at twenty five, the story might seem like one to tell to make people laugh. However, when I think of the story, I think of it as one to tell to show the definition of a great Mom. We're not making foil Kites anymore but having a great Mother is something that hasn't changed.
