Serious Ouchie + Is It Just MY Boy?

So...my son is a super-hyper, never-stopping, 100MPH kinda kid. I've been reassured by friends and family that it's a boy thing, and of course, my little girl is laid-back and for the most part, relatively calm.

Last night, as he was running through the kitchen, bouncing into walls and crawling across the ceiling, he slipped and banged his chin right on the corner of one of the kitchen chairs...HARD. After a few stray tears and some ice, I was able to survey the damage.

Yes. I had multiple heart attacks, but was glad it wasn't worse. It's so dark, though, that it looks like he has ink on his chin! We keep a 'boo-boo book' where we put pictures of his various nicks and scrapes. Papa Muffin started this (why do boys think injuries are 'cool') so my son would be able to look fondly back and remember every one of his mishaps. *rolls eyes*

In fact, even during ER trips (nothing too serious, by the way), he's there, snapping the camera. What is it about boys? Are they just completely and totally fearless? This one wasn't the scariest for me. It was about a month ago when my son cut his foot wide open on a shard of glass and was bleeding copious amounts - or at least it looked like copious amounts to me! Poor mothers - we get a very regular heart-check when we have sons, don't we? What has been your scariest 'boo-boo' and is (are) your son (kids) the same way?

  1. Aww, poor mama!

And no, it's not your boy, it's...just boys. My husband, when a wee tot (just 6!) broke a concrete garage floor. With his *head*. This is remembered fondly by him and his father.

It's a wonder they ever live long enough for us to marry them...

  5. It's definately not just your boy. My boys were covered in bruises all the time.[and still are at 8 and 10] I was worried people would think I was beating them ! They had huge bumps on their foreheads many times. My 8 year old once knocked down a big mirror that was leaning against the wall and it broke and he had to get stitches on his head. I think that was when he was 3 or 4 years old !

  6. It's not just boys either. My little girl has had more injuries then my boy ever did. It is almost as if she doesn't see the wall or other obstacles before she bangs into them.

  7. Oh ouch! Hurts just to look at it! My little brother (not so little anymore) was like that when he was a kid. He survived and your son will too :) Just get him things like helmets, knee pads, heck how about full body armor!

  8. Ann - faster than I'd like - lol!
Thank you, Maura! He's a tough little thing.
mframe - I guess I'm lucky that my daughter is fairly calm and doesn't get many injuries. KNOCK ON WOOD!
Earring - full body armor is quite tempting. ha!

  9. We've never had any "serious" boo-boos, although with 3 kids, I'm sure our day is coming! But the picture book is a terrific idea - what fun memories!

  12. I am holding my newborn son in my lap as I type this and thinking of the horrors to come O.o My husband has a barrage of scars from his childhood that he proudly recants to anyone who will listen. If my son is anything like his father I am in soooo much trouble. I think it must be a guy thing ;D

  13. Yes, boys are fearless. Especially if they are first born. My son gives me near heart attacks almost daily with his antics, and he's only two! Best wishes for lots of energy, you're gonna need it!
